As far as ear stretching, in some tribal cultures, the size your ears are stretched to is a statement of your wisdom. After the stretch I would have immediately moved to something small with a steel post. I never found sleeping with tapers in to be a good idea, the last time I did it I was at a 2g and it was on the verge of being fully healed. Dead stretching: bad idea.
Dead stretching 3.2mm (or 1/8 inch): doubly bad idea.
Dead stretching 3.2mm (or 1/8 inch) with silicone jewelry: no.
Use teflon tape.

Just remember to oil up the plug. Ptfe can feel a little "sticky" on your ear if you don't. Good luck!
