After stretching to a new size how long should you wait to take your plugs or tapers out to clean them, or change them?

I just stretched to a 2g! Right now I have some acrylic tapers in, cause I don't have any 2g plugs but I plan on ordering some. Anyways is it safe to keep my acrylic tapers in until I buy some plugs? Thanks!

now, I'm not talking about STRETCHING to a 6 or 8 gauge, I'm talking about actually starting off by getting your ears pierced with a high gauge needle such as 8, or 6.
