stretched ears in the winter

So a friend at work was telling how bad it is to wear metal plugs/tunnels in the winter....I live in a city kinda known for how cold it can get....wouldn't be odd for it to be -40 in January.

Makes sense to me...once you start stretching theres not too much skin there and he spoke of the fact it would be easy to get frost bite. This scares the crap out of me...

I can cover them with my hair and a toque.

ANYWAYS....what do you think the best material to wear is in the winter to avoid anything bad happening due to the cold? wood? silicone? acrylic? hell, I don't know.

Might just be crazy. But advice pleeease.

Yes, cover your ears while you are outside in the cold climates! As far as jewelry material, wear whatever you are comfortable with. I have a lot of metal in my face and ears and only once did I come close to frostnip (when I forgot to wear a stocking cap). I grew up in Minnesota and currently live in upstate New York, so I'm familiar with cold. Just keep your ears covered and you will be fine.

I think there's a topic on here were this was brought up before. You could always try winter hats or ear muffs as well as wearing different materials, that might help :)

It doesn't get that cold where I live, but I prefer wood when I'm going to be out in cold wind, and of course something solid. Tunnels suck when cold wind blows through them. Horn and silicone weren't bad either, but glass seemed almost as bad as metal for making my lobes chilly.

But long hair is usually enough in central Texas, rarely is it so cold that I need a scarf so my ears don't feel like icicles are stabbing them.

I usually don't wear plugs during winter season and during too hot. @Hardware - Can you post your pic here so that we can see how your face look with lot of metals.
