Hi every one , I am very new to stretching so Im sure Ill probably sound quite uneducated on the subject in comparison to seasoned stretchers .. here is my story
Well Ive always had peirced lobes since I was about 4 got them with the gun at the mall ( i know I know ick guns not good lol ) but I had them for years and then just let them close . about 7 years I got them re peirced with again the dreaded gun ... any way everything went fine and for years I would wore 14 ga horse shoes but when I wanted to wear my wire dangleys I would slip them in laong with the 14 ga hoops with no problem ....any way I really didnt have a desire to stretch at that point .. so flash forward to recently and I started to notice my earholes getting really loose in fact I started wearing 2 14s in each hole to fill up the gap and Id still wear my wire danglys from time to time .. well I did a bit of reading and found that 2 14 ga =about an 8 ... went to the mall got 6 ga tapers ( its the smallest they had )and tried but I felt a lil resistance and stopped , ordered some 8 ga spiral tapers online and a week later they arrived I took a hot shower lubed up the spirals and they slid in like a hot knife thru butter no pain no resistance at all .. so evediently my ears stretched on there own due to weight and gravity lol .. I plan on wearing 8s for at least a couple of months then trying again with the 6 ga tapers since I already have them .. but 6 is probably as far as Ill go . my question is that since my ears are evidently very easily stretched by wieght should I invest in some steal 8 ga jewelry to help gravity do its job ? it seams the acrylic spirals I am wearing no are so light I can barely feel them lol :)

right now my ears feel great and look healthy the stretch never hurt , didnt require any force, and I had no tenderness after ...

thanks for the info
Jayne
p.s. if you just wanna slam me and leave rude comments dont bother ....

Welcome to the forums.

Wearing heavy dangly jewelry for years will certainly help in stretching. Even wearing heavy jewelry for a short time will stretch them. I was pierced at 8g and worse 1/2" dia 8g horseshoes for quite some time and when I moved up to 6g, there was very little actual stretching going on.

On another note, something you have to keep in mind is this: while two 14g barbells will be the same DIAMETER as one 8g barbell, the CIRCUMFERENCE is what matters. If you have ever decided to put 2 14g barbells up next to one 8g barbell, you will notice that the actual surface area is QUITE different. This is what most people seem to forget. Sure, the 8-6g jump is only ONE mm in DIAMETER, but you are going from just a fuzz over 10mm in CIRCUMFERENCE with 8g to almost 13mm in circumference with 6g.

As far as getting steel barbells, definitely. Acrylic jewelry shouldn't be worn in fresh stretches. Good luck, and just know that stretching is addictive. I originally was just going to pierce my ears at 10g and call it a day, then decided 8g and stretch to 4, then eventually changed it to 2g, and now my goal is 0g. And, after college, if I find the right job that allows me to keep my piercings, I'll probably move up to 7/16" or 1/2".

a little up date my ears are still feeling great , Im still in my 8 ga acrylic spirals waiting on some stainless to come in a few days ... any way when I first realized my lobes were already stretched I bought a 6 ga taper and I felt some resistance , not pain just resistance
but I stopped and ordered 8 ga and they slid right in . I have only had them in 4 days but when I took them out and cleaned them tonight it felt relly eazy so apon further inspection I can see a gap at the top of the hole already so I am guessing that I was probably some where between 8 and 6 to begin with and probably could have used just a bit more lube and put the 6 in .. but now I already have 8 ga stainless comming and I know the importance of going slow so I am going to wear the stailess for a month or so before I try the 6 again ... I am also thinking that since the steel will be heavier than these ultra light acrylics that by the time I do try the 6s again they should practically jump in no stretch at all lol ....
