Do NOT rub alcohol on your lobes. You want to use emu oil, jojoba oil, or vitamin e. It sounds to me like the material of the plugs you're using could be the cause or you may not be cleaning your ears. Either could cause problems, but it's most likely the material.

Stop using the rubbing alcohol and never use it for anything piercing-related again. The best thing to do for an irritated piercing is to soak it in hot salt water for 5-10 minutes once or twice a day. Use sea salt and make sure the mixture is no stronger than 1/4 teaspoon per cup of water. And never play with/twist the jewelry. Once the swelling goes down and the soreness goes away, start doing oil massages.
