Havn't stretched for 3 years out of fear... Help?

I have a 00g and i want to go higher.
I haven't stretched it since i was 14 I'm 18 now and I originally wanted a 1/2 in. So here's my problem,My hole is really close to my head and i have plenty of lobe left for stretching i haven't stretched because my friend said I'd tear it cause its close to my head but i still have a lot of lobe and i want to stretch to my wanted size. What should i do?
