can you use weight to stretch ears?

was just wondering could you use a weighted objected to stretch your ears if heavy enough and if you can what would be the dangers of this method?

Re: can you use weight to stretch ears?

You can use weights to stretch your ears. Typically weights come in 8g and up. The drawback is, If you're at a size smaller than 8g, you could experience a cheesecutter effect, where the jewelry just cuts right through your lobe. At larger sizes it can cause dangerous thinning. I don't recommend this method unless you know what you're doing and you are VERY careful.

For ear weighting, I would recommend you find people in your area who are experienced and can guide you through it.

i'm at 10mm and would like to go to 12 ... is it a simople as leaving a weight in for an hour then popping in a new piece of jewellery or is it a little more complicated?

It's a whole different kind of modification technique. The process is different and the look is too. If you just want to stretch to the next size, I recommend you tape up instead. I am not an expert on ear weighting, but it is not the same kind of stretching.

it also puts uneven pull on your ears and if you wear them for long periods of time you may find that the bottom of your lobe is a lott thinner than the rest of your lobe.

Re: can you use weight to stretch ears?

Indeed. There are cultures who stretch their ears with weights, but I am sure they have techniques they have developed over time. In the US it is typical that weights are simply worn to be decorative. Long term use without understanding will lead to lobe thinning.

As far as just leaving them in for an hour, in all likelihood you won't notice any difference in an hour. If you use a lot of weight, you are likely to tear your lobes, badly.
