Titanium

Hey Guys,

How are you all?

I'm trying to find a 7mm internally threaded tunnel, ideally in surgical steel. I have only been able to find one in titanium. Does anyone know if titanium is as non-reactive/easy to wear as steel?

Thanks peeps.

Compliments of the gorging season to you all.

Re: Titanium

Your ears may be different but recently I found I have an issue with titanium. Before I bought these plugs that are titanium I had some surgical steel in, but I decided to try some titanium, they make my right ear itch like crazy sometimes, not all the time but my right ear is really tempermental and idk if anyone else has ever had this problem.....

Re: Titanium

Titanium is an inert metal and shouldn't react with your skin. That said, there are different grades of ti. Make sure you look for implant/medical grade titanium. There are other industrial grades which are made as different alloys.

Re: Titanium

I know its not supposed to react with my skin, but that's always the funny thing about my skin things that aren't supposed to react with almost always do.....like jojoba oil, I tried it once and everywhere I touched my face, neck, ears and even on the tops of my hands broke out in a rash, little tiny red itchy bumps everywhere. The only place it doesn't bother me is my lips and I am guessing its bc its not the main ingredient in my chapstick.....anywho titanium bugs only my right ear and its not that it gets red or anything just itchy, some pple say acrylics bother them and I figured that since my skin is so sensitive it would bother me but I have actually no issues with the stuff......

Re: Titanium

Titanium allergies are really quite rare, though they're often more serious than nickel ones, which a HUGE amount of people have sensitivity issues with. Steel contains nickel, titanium doesn't :) Titanium is used as hypoallergenic jewellery, steel isn't. There are different grades though too. Look for surgical grade steel and implant grade titanium. If its US, there are ASTM identifiers you can look up.
Chances are you'll be fine, but theres always the odd anomaly.

Re: Titanium

Hey guys,

Thanks for this - all useful info.

I've ordered me a titanium tunnel, so will see how that goes when it arrives.

Anything to get me away from bl00dy o-rings!!!!! Did I mention I don't like them? ;)

What do people usually do with jewellery? I mean, is it best to use different types of jewellery (different materials/shapes/types), or do people stick to the same thing?

Re: Titanium

I personally wear different kinds of jewlery, I have some acrylic, surgical steel and several different types of wood, the only thing I haven't worn yet is glass and silicone, although I plan on buying both in the near future, I usually just rotate them out every few days or so.....or when I am tired of looking at the same jewlery, my sis is at 4g and she mismatches her jewlery, like if she layers a blue shirt with a pink tank underneath she will wear a blue plug and a pink plug.....

Re: Titanium

I wear different things depending what the weathers like or how my ears are feeling.

For stretching I just stuck to steel or glass.
