it shouldn't hurt that bad, normally you feel a pinching pain when you stretch and after you put the plugs/tapers in it should feel a little warm.
Blood is never good in a fresh stretched hole.
Try to downsize to 10g again and leave your ears alone for at least 4 weeks, after one week, start massaging your lobe twice a day, use some oil to keep it soft, and clean it with antibacterial soap.
If you put some heavier jewellery in, and tug on your lobes, the stretch to 8g should be without pain.
Hope this helps.

Personally, I wait around a week after a new stretch before taking my plugs out. When I shower, I run super hot water on my ears and tug ever so gently on my plugs to help get the hot water to flow in and kill bacteria.
When you DO remove your plugs for the first time, have some emu or jojoba oil ready. Give your lobes a quick massage and you shouldn't have a problem getting the jewelry back in. Soap is okay, but it tends to leave residue behind which gets irritating after a few hours.
Typically, I massage with emu oil once or twice a week to loosen my lobes up, then wash the oil off with Dr. Bronner's Tea Tree soap (diluted in 10 parts water). Dr. Bronner's is a great non residue all purpose soap available at most health food and vitamin stores.

Wait at least six weeks, maybe more... just whenever you can stretch with no pain and little resistance. 8G-6G is a pretty hard stretch for most people.
I'm Lindsay.
I have 1/2" lobes and 11 piercings: left helix x2, both conches, both nostrils, septum, navel, and VCH.
My lobes are small but I know a lot about stretching and how to do it safely, so message me if you have any questions!
