When you are sizing skin eyelets they say they are 4G and ¼ is the ¼ the depth as in the thickness of your ear lobe?

It's the length of the wearable area, which is the part that actually goes in your ear, if that makes sense. Not your gauge size but how long the piece of jewelry is.

so if I had 3/8 in thick ear lobe then if I got 4G by 1/4 then it would be too small and inside my ear? However if 1/4 in lobe and 3/8 in eyelet it would barely stick out of my ear? Is thi correct?
I want ones which just fit not stick out like 1/4 past my ear that is what my last tube did not what I wanted.

Right. With earskins, though, 5/16" should be plenty as long as you don't have REALLY thick earlobes. I always thought mine were pretty fat but 1/4" fits me perfectly. Earskins are designed to be really snug.

My earskins are too long, and so they make my ears look needlessly thin.
Should've bought the other ones :/ But its better than being too short.
Measure carefully!
