If you get O rings a bit smaller than the size of your plug and slide them on they probably wont fall off. Depends how much you move about in your sleep! I've had O rings on mines and not once have they fell off

I don't think I've ever had an o-ring come off in my sleep, and it's super unlikely if they're the right size. Almost all the plugs I have require o-rings and they never fall off unless I'm messing with them on purpose.
I'm Lindsay.
I have 1/2" lobes and 11 piercings: left helix x2, both conches, both nostrils, septum, navel, and VCH.
My lobes are small but I know a lot about stretching and how to do it safely, so message me if you have any questions!

Yeah, the ONLY time I've had an O-ring pop off was once when I was being overly aggressive drying my hair off after a shower. Got behind my lobe, dragged over the O-ring, popped it off. Again, I was being pretty rough with it because I had a lot of hair then.
2g lobes, want to be 0g

I always use o-rings that are a size smaller than the plugs, never had any come off. For sleeping I use kaos silicone earskins.

I'm a very violent sleeper, like insane asylum, but I've never had a o-ring come off. Your good dude.

Re: o rings good or bad?
O-ring are good, but they look bad.(IMO). i prefer to go with a single flare plug for smaller gauges. the font looks a lot better without that stupid black ring and with it being flared, it usually looks a touch bigger. when your planning on stretching, i would stay away from double flared jewelry because you are actually stretching more than you should to accommodate that piece of jewelry. Well, thats true unless your using soft material jewelry like ear skins. As for them falling off at night. I've never had it happen.
1 1/4" each lobe. 2g septum. 12g lebret.
6g tongue retired. 12g Hand webbing retired. 12g bridge retired.
12g madison retired. 10g ampallang regretfully retired.
Stretching goal: 1" again. No real need to stop if my ears still want to go.
